Cultural Preservation at Pilgrim Hot Springs

Pilgrim Hot Springs staff are in the process of developing a Cultural Resource Management Plan (CRMP), thanks to grant funding by the State of Alaska Office of History and Archaeology (OHA) and partnership with Northern Land Use Research Alaska, LLC (NLURA).

Kawerak is dedicated to the proper management and protection of the cultural resources which make Pilgrim Hot Springs a unique place so that we may convey its story and intrinsic value for future generations of the local community and visitors alike. The objective of the CRMP is to provide an informed and standard approach for future projects implemented on site, and to comply with applicable state and federal historic preservation regulations. Elements of the CRMP include cultural chronology and historic timelines, previously identified cultural resources, previous research and field investigations, and an inadvertent discovery plan to be shared with visitors, volunteers, and contractors, as well as reporting requirements.

Pilgrim Hot Springs is grateful to NLURA staff for their expertise and attention to detail on this project. We would also like to extend our gratitude to OHA for funding and supporting this project.
